Staying at home with my husband and son for more than 9 months now due to the COVID-19 pandemic has made my life busier than ever. While husband is busy working from home and Justin is preoccupied with distance learning, the burden of managing the household lies solely on my shoulders.

Pork Menudo with Mekeni Picnic Cheesy Hotdog

We used to eat out on weekends pre-pandemic, but this family bonding activity has been put on hold since March for health and safety reasons. With the COVID cases still rising in PH, we still feel unsafe to go to the mall, let alone dine in restaurants. This is why a big chunk of my time is spent in the kitchen these days. I now cook for my boys 7 days a week.

Their constant questioning of “What’s for lunch?” or “What’s for dinner?” tells me that father and son are both excitedly anticipating the meals I will prepare for them. And because they do, I have to level up my cooking to meet their expectations and make them more inspired to work and go to online class, respectively.

Hotdog Sisig

So how do I spice up my quarantine cooking? I use hotdogs in my home-cooked dishes. So versatile, hotdogs can be eaten fried, steamed, or roasted. They can also be included in various food preparations like soup, salads, sandwiches, etc. That’s why I never run out of hotdogs in my freezer.

One hotdog brand that I highly recommend is Mekeni Picnic Hotdog, which comes in two variants: Picnic Red Hotdog and Picnic Cheesy Hotdog. Both are made of high-quality ingredients that your kids will surely love. So meaty and tasty! No wonder they’re #MomApproved!

Pinoy-style Spaghetti

I have tried Mekeni Picnic Cheesy Hotdog for some of my quarantine home-cooked meals, like Pork Menudo, Hotdog Sisig, Chicken Pastel, and Pinoy-style Spaghetti. The verdict: Father and son enjoyed all of them and now have their own favorites to boot. It’s Pork Menudo for the dad and Chicken Pastel for our young man.

After trying Mekeni Picnic Cheesy Hotdog, I’m convinced that #MomsPickPicnic because of its premium quality and superb taste. If you want to make your dishes more special, I suggest making Mekeni Picnic Cheesy Hotdog a part of your quarantine cooking, too. Mekeni Picnic Cheesy Hotdog is available in 250g, 450g, 500g, g, 1kg and 2.5kg packs in leading supermarkets, wet markets, online stores, and Mekeni’s Home2Home delivery.

This blog was originally put up to document my son’s growing-up milestones, all for posterity’s sake. But there are other things to write about, aside from “mommyhood,” that merit my attention, and I’m including them all here. This blog now chronicles my life as a mom and a wife and everything else in between. For collabs, please email tgfiguerres@yahoo.com.
