As an online writing tutor, I’m always on the lookout for patterns of grammatical errors in the essays I’m reviewing to help the students with their revision. One of the most common errors is the use of homonyms, words that sound alike but have different meanings. For instance, some students use “there” instead of “their,” “where” instead of “were,” or “do” instead of “due.” It’s important to use the correct words when you’re writing or speaking so your readers/audience will fully grasp the message you’re conveying. Below is a list of commonly misused words.
