My almost five-year-old son gets excited and giddy when he sees this pretty 16-year-old girl in church every Sunday. He calls this girl “Ate Jen.” My son will throw random glances at Ate Jen from where he was sitting and when Ate Jen notices him, he will hide under his chair because he says he’s shy! The first time my son took notice of Ate Jen, he told me: “Mommy, when I grow up, she will be my sweetheart! LOL!
I realized when my son started preschool, which was two years ago, that he has a penchant for pretty girls with fair complexion. When he sees a good-looking mestiza on TV, in school, in the mall or elsewhere, he would tell me, “I like that girl, Mommy, because she’s pretty!”
I didn’t know that boys and girls these days could have crushes at such a young age. I had my first crush when I was around 10 or 11 years old, so it came as a surprise to me that my son who’s only turning five this July already has a crush.
Do your preschoolers have crushes already? How do your kids behave when their crushes are around? What attracted them to their crushes?

Mommy Techa, they’re really starting young nowadays 🙂 I had my first crush at 7 years old.
